HOW TO BLOG for local traffic

To drive local traffic, talk about buying and selling homes as it relates to your local area.

With a mass of blogs out there, it’s hard to stand out. However, Realtors have a “get out of jail free” card in their local community. Because you know your selling area and you know that your customers are looking for local information in their searches, become a local expert in your blog. All realtor blogs focus on the “how to’s” of buying and selling property, so you will not stand out by constantly blogging on those topics. To make a name for yourself that will drive the search traffic, you will need to talk about buying and selling homes as it relates to your local area. The basic principle here is to not be generic. You don’t want to get lost in the sea of blogs out there. Write content that will make you stand out.

Be a local expert and information source

Since many people turn to the web for their first source of information, make blog an informational cornucopia . Beyond the blogs entries you write related to real estate in the area, use news feeds on your site to provide local news and events calendars. The RSS Pieces real estate blog system allows you to pull in highly customized RSS feeds from Google and other free sources so you can automatically provide current news to your site visitors that is relevant to their needs.

Focus on a niche.

It’s better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond. Sites that feature a niche that is of interest only to a small group of people (but is very interesting to those people) are likely to achieve high search engine rankings for relevant terms, draw traffic through search engines and become well known among aficionados of the niche. Luckily, realtors have a niche market of local home buyers and sellers and some realtors even have a more narrow focus in luxury homes, condominium sales, historic homes or corporate rentals. If you have a niche, write for the niche. For example, if you sell historic homes, discuss local antique shops, historic sites in the area or even talk about renovation.
