Do you have a stick up your blog

Is your real estate blog the online equivalent of counting sheep? The sad fact is, most real estate blogs are dry and boring. They cover each and every neighborhood in their farm area in excruciating detail, give stale advice on how to buy, sell, invest in homes, provide some lengthy market stats and overall put the reader into a deep sleep bordering on a coma. It is sheer agony to read a real estate blog like this. And the fact is, a blog like that, won’t get read. So, pull that stick out of your blog and shake things up, write like you are Mr. or Mrs. Personality by following these 5 simple blog writing rules.

How to write with personality:

1. It’s alright to be a little narcissistic

Most of your future clients are probably already living in your farm area or the surrounding areas, so let people get to know you and build your blog into the community hot spot. In each post, slice off a little section of your own life and give readers a taste of who you are. Now, over-sharing is a no no, but a little glimpse of the soccer mom, sailor or golfer in you will allow readers to relate to you. This helps them see you not as Mr. or Mrs. Realtor but rather as a human being that is just like them. And, people like to do business with people that are “just like them.”

2. It’s alright to use some slang

A real estate blog is not the place to use the industry lingo or mortgage jargon. A blog is the place for you to let your hair down and talk to your customers in the same conversational tone you do with your closest friends. Use some slang, get creative with your grammar, spell with an accent if the story permits. Get gregarious on your blog!

3. It’s alright to be funny

Remember that old shibboleth, “laughter is the best medicine.” Well, laughter is also the shortest path to landing a loyal blog subscriber! Never underestimate the power of a good chuckle. Laughter releases endorphins which makes people feel happy. We all like to be “happy” so, we seek out things that will release those endorphins again. Basically, if your blog is funny, will be the drug to which your unsuspecting readers become addicted!

4. It’s alright to have a little fun

You’re blog is your online party place. There’s nothing worse than a boring party, so liven things up. Hold contests, host events, get catty, provide “must have” or “inside” information that draws readers back with a magnetic strength that is hard to overcome. You need to be a ring master of a “wild” and “crazy” blog to make it a “hot” spot for your readers. You want people to see and be seen on your blog. And the formula for that is simple, make the blog fun!

5. It’s alright to piss people off

Emotionally engage readers by saying something controversial. Every town has a “hot button” issue or person. Press that button and you will be amazed at how traffic and participation skyrocket. Say things on your blog designed to interest the local press and incite controversey. Look at what is making the front page of your local paper and spin-off a few posts. You can even seed your blog back to the press by shooting them an email about your blog covering the topic.
