Like American Idol judge, Simon Cowell would say, “you either have the “it” factor or you don’t.” And believe me, your real estate blog needs to be chock full of “it” to differentiate itself from the growing pack of real estate blogs on the Internet. So, what constitutes “it” on a blog? The criteria is simple: write content that makes people happy, sad, mad, etc. Basically, a real estate blog with the “it’ factor calls readers to action and keeps them coming back. Want to put the “it” into your blog? Just follow these 6 simple steps and within a week, your real estate blog will be full of “it.”

5 Secrets to Building Traffic for your Blog

  1. Sensationalize your blog

Head to the Hollywood Hills with local celebrity gossip or celebrity real estate news. If you have a celebrity living, visiting or breaking the law in your farm area you’d be remiss to not blog about it. 

Just check this post by our client, Christine Adler out:

Donald Trump Flies Flag and Breaks the Law in Palm Beach

That post has “it.” With all the hoopla Mr. Trump has been breeding lately with his Rosie feud, he is the perfect target for a Realtor farming that area. The story is controversial as it juxtaposes the law with patriotism and most importantly, it all revolves around a local celebrity with large real estate holdings in the area.

In the time it took me to read the post, I had already been Dugg and viewed more than 15 times. Needless to say, Christine Adler knows what sells.

  1. Pump up the volume with engaging podcasts

For those of you that don’t conduct podcast interviews, start. It is far and away the best way to get people engaged. Go out, interview a shop owner, a restaurateur, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the local historical society, a librarian, a local celebrity… People like to feel important and most feel honored when you interview them and will tell their friends to go listen to the podcast. It is an easy way to drive local traffic and create a word of mouth buzz.

  1. Attract big spenders with exclusive interests

Live in an area with big spenders and people that wish they were? We all love to know how the rich and famous live, what is hot among the elite and what kinds of homes they buy. So, blog about hot new technology trends in exclusive homes or talk fashion trends and where the best shopping is in your area or ho readers can get the glam look for less. If you live by the water, talk yachts and the local boat club amenties. If you have golf courses nearby, interview Golf Pros and get tips on how to improve your swing, then review each local course or Pro Shop. It’s simple, see what’s in your area and cater to a special interest in at least one post per week. You’ll be surprised how quickly you can build local traffic among people with common interests. And that, my dears, is how you build community and spark participation and commenting.

  1. Be controversial with feud starting posts

Ain’t nobody better at creating feuds and wars than our crazy client, the XBroker. Jeff Corbett knows that stirring the proverbial pot can make all the difference in the world for a mortgage blog. Promoting transparency in lending isn’t really that sexy of a topic, but Jeff has managed to win both friends and enemies with posts that call out certain brokers as nothing more scam artists. Jeff’s traffic, participation, comments and leads skyrocketed after posting a few controversial pieces.

  1. Solicit participation with online events

You I love me some party action. Whether online or off, we all like a good get together. So, planning on line party is always a way to kickstart traffic, just look at what the Blog Swap event did for a newbie blog just days after going live? Lately, I’ve taken to helping clients organize online events to spike their traffic. So, stay tuned for out of the box events coming to blogs by Leigh Brown, Kevin Orak and  Christine Adler.
