8 comments » Real Estate Blog SEO Tip of the Week: Keyword Use in Body Text and Overall Body Text Relevance to KeywordsAccording to SEO experts over at SEOmoz, Keyword Relevance to Body Text (the topical relevance of text on the page compared to targeted keywords) is highly important to search engines. Keywords, those pesky little terms that visitors use to search you out in Google by, are critical to your real estate blog. But, the key to selecting quality keywords is not just to include those terms in your meta tags you’d like to be searched by, but to also include those terms in the body of your real estate blog posts as well. According to SEO experts over at SEOmoz, Keyword Relevance to Body Text (the topical relevance of text on the page compared to targeted keywords) is highly important to search engines. They consider that factor greatly when trying to determine how well your real estate blog will show in their indexes for common search terms included in your meta tags. Meta elements are HTML elements used to provide structured metadata about a web page. Such elements are placed as tags in the head section of an HTML document. There is nothing worse than spending a whole bunch of time having SEOed a site to find that you included poison words in your meta data or put too many keywords in. Tool: There are plenty of analyzers out there, I prefer widexl ‘s Remotely Meta Tag Analyzer because it seems to have the most complete free analytics tool out there. How to select 100% relevant keywords from your body text for better search positioning Because using the Yahoo! Keyword API (the benchmark in keyword relevance) yourself can be a bear, RSS Pieces wrote a fee SEO tool for Realtors that helps you select 100% relevant keywords for your site from your body text. Always pepper your posts with keywords so the tool is more likely to select the terms you want to be searched by. If you neglect to mention your key terms (farm areas, real estate, homes, condos, etc) at least 3 times throughout the post, the tool is probably not going to select words you will be happy with. But that is not the API’s fault, it’s yours. Make your content relevant by ALWAYS using your key words multiple times in EVERY post. Tool: RSS Pieces Free Keyword Relevance Tool – AKA: Term Extraction To use the tool, simple check the Term Extraction button and either enter the page url into the URL area or check the Options for Body Text check box and paste your body text into the edit box, then click “go.” It will return your 100% relevant keywords. Comment from: maureen [Visitor] Wow Mary - I have looked at a bunch of those web site analizers but windexl is fantastic. I recently re-did my website and flowed all of your suggestions. It is ranking on page 1 off google. The only thing listing higher than my website is my blog. ;) Couldn't have done it without your help. Comment from: Jeff Dowler [Visitor] Excellent read, Mary. I am still working on understanding all this. Some great information. Off to try out Windexl. Thanks Comment from: Roberta Murphy [Visitor] Mary: Thanks so much for consistently sharing your knowledge and tools. I am a subscriber to your site and look forward to finally meeting you in San Francisco. Comment from: Guest [Visitor] Thanks. I love getting "real" SEO info out there. Because I feel that too many companies are trying to sell over priced SEO info to real estate professionals like it is rocket science and the fact is, it's not. The primary SEO work most real estate sites need is stuff you can easily understand and do yourself. No need to pay someone to do it for you when you can do it better and cheaper yourself. Just look at Laurie Manny's site- her 5 month blog shows up on p1 of Google, MSN and Yahoo and that was compeltely due to quality title tag, keyword and heading tag selection - all simple SEO tweaks anyone can do. If nothing else, I hope this helps more real estate professionals save money and place better in the engines. Comment from: Kermit Johnson [Visitor] Thank you so much for providing this tool. None of my website hosts, hostesses and their assoicated SEO people ever suggested a tool like this, and I have been frequently been told by "experts" that there is no reliable tool like this out there. Web host should offer tools like this should be offered to do-it-yourself website builders. It might save a lot of time. p.s. Is there a spot on this site where questions from dummies can be submitted? I am a newbie to the blog stuff, and am a ways into my blogsite, but I feel like I am missing some basic knowledge, and feel overwhelmed as a result.
There isn't a specific place where you can ask questions, but you can leave them in the comments (which we read regularly) or you can click on the little envelope next to our names and send us an email. We are more than happy to assist you with any of your questions! Comment from: Colleen Kulikowski [Visitor] Great advice! You always have such wonderful tips! Thanks you! Comment from: Christopher Myers [Visitor] Mary, thanks for providing tools like this! I'm a new blogger and struggling to get my arms around the whole SEO issue. Much apreciated!
