How to Dress Your Real Estate Blog for Success!

Dressing your BLog for Success!
Real Estate Professionals often find building their Real Estate BLOG as an overwhelming process; there are so many posts to be written, where does one start?

If you look at some established Real Estate BLOGs you will find similarities. Today we are going to discuss your Real Estate BLOG as if you were building your fashion wardrobe.

Ladies, (I know that at this point we have lost all the men) you are probably thinking “has Colleen gone over the deep end?” but let us talk about this for a moment.   Surprisingly, there are a lot of similarities between a fashion wardrobe and the basic elements of your Real Estate BLOG.

According to Bravo’s TV show Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style, there are 10 Basic Elements to any Woman’s wardrobe. They include:

  1. Basic Black Dress
  2. Trench Coat
  3. Classic Dress Pants
  4. White Shirt
  5. Jeans
  6. Cashmere Sweater
  7. Skirt
  8. Day Dress
  9. Blazer
  10. Sweat Suit Alternative

Honest it really does make sense!

Basic Black Dress = Community and neighborhood posts
According to Tim, the Basic Black Dress has been around for a long time and is classic. So what in the world could it possibly have in common with your Real Estate BLOG? Well, this is your signature community piece. It is truly timeless.

Examples:
Ann Cummings – Portsmouth NH Exeter New Hampshire
Laurie Manny – Long Beach CA Historic Homes of Long Beach

Day Dress = Restaurant reviews and community events
Day Dress? Who really wears a dress any more? There really isn’t anything wrong with dressing up for the day. In fact you should! These are your very specific community reports.   These are different than the Little Black Dress. Like Restaurant Reviews, talk about a specific subdivision, or a specific community event.

Examples:
Building your Blog's Wardrobe

Marc Blasi – Palm Beach Gardens FL The Best in Palm Beach
Rick & Ines Garcia – Miami FL  Hirso’s Sushi

Classic Dress Pants = Tutorial Posts
Classic Dress Pants according to Tim Gunn goes with everything and is flattering. These are your How To and Instructional Posts.

Examples:

Read Also:  Build credibility with tutorial posts

A Good Skirt = Social, Fun, Wacky and Weird Posts
According to Tim Gunn if you wear dress pants you should also own a good skirt. These might be more social and fun instructional posts, but just as important as the others.

Examples:
Ines and Rick Garcia – Miami FL Miamism Friday’s

A great pair of jeans = Controversial and attention grabbing posts
A great pair of jeans that fit properly are a required staple of your fashion wardrobe. They can be dressed up with a jacket, look great with a sweater and pearls, or with a t-shirt and sneakers they can be very casual. For your Real Estate BLOG these are the posts that catch the reader’s attention and sometimes just add some interest to your Real Estate BLOG.

Yes, we are talking about the kinds of posts that get people talking – controversy is good, so make sure the jeans, I mean Real Estate BLOGs, you choose for this section make your butt look Jennifer Lopez-alicious.

Examples:

Laurie Manny – Long Beach CA Chasing the Market Down
Maxine & Marti Gellens – La Jolla CA Black’s Beach Let’s Get Naked
The Wilkas Group – San Mate CA Don’t Believe everything you read or hear!

Read Also:  Starting a controversy on your real estate blog to drive traffic

A classic white shirt = Market Reports and Statistics
The classic white shirt, we all have one in our closet. In fact we all have lots of them! They are the work horse of our wardrobe. They come in a variety of styles and formats. In your Real Estate BLOG these are the posts that talk about Market Conditions, give out statistics of the Real Estate market and educate the consumer.
Examples:

Mark Blasi – Palm Beach Gardens FL PGA National Market Report
Colleen Kulikowski – Celebration FL 10 Least Expensive Single Family Homes

Cashmere Sweater = Buyer & Seller Posts
Cashmere Sweater is yet another suggestion from Tim Gunn. This might be a turtleneck, a cabled v-neck, or the sweater twin set. All of these are great to build your fashion wardrobe. They are the basics that every woman comes to depend upon. These are the Buyer and seller pieces that you write. The more you have the better your wardrobe. Need we say anymore on the subject?

Examples:

The Wilkas Group – San Mateo CA Tips to Get Your House Sold

Sweat suit = Remodeling and Flipping
Sweat suit alternative is the last of the clothing basics to add to your wardrobe. It needs to be comfortable and casual.   These are your remodeling posts, flipping properties etc. It is very reassuring to have these posts around, much like throwing on an old sweat suit is when it is cold outside and you really don’t want to dress up.

Examples:

Laurie Manny – Long Beach CA   Kitchen Remodels
Maxine & Marti Gellens – La Jolla CA Incorporating a Home Office in your home

Simple Blazer = Finance, Insurance Posts
A simple Blazer is a very flexible addition to your wardrobe.   It can go with your jeans, skirt, Classic dress pants and even your basic day dress. These are the posts that cross between buyers and home owners. Various topics that would be beneficial to both buyers and sellers are Mortgage, Financing, Credit Repair, and Home Owner Insurance.

Examples:

Brian Brady – San Diego CA Are you Perpetually Poor or Willingly Wealthy?
Marti & Maxine Gellens – La Jolla CA Can I do a 1031 Exchange?

Trench Coat = Service Provider Posts
Tim describes the Trench Coat as a classic and current fashion trend. These are the posts you write about the services in the area. This would be posts about utilities companies, newspapers, florists, doctors and the like.

Everyone needs one - they always come in handy…

Example:

Maxine & Marti Gellens – La Jolla CA Where to Call for Dinner Reservations

So, the next time you get writer’s block, pull out your credit card and take it for a spin to spruce up your blog’s closet. Your husband will be happy and your blog will be oh so fashion forward!

What an interesting comparison!

It looks like we only have these in our wardrobe:

  • classic dress pants

  • classic white shirt

  • cashmere sweater

So it looks like if a real estate buyer is on the more conservative side and like classic clothing, you would want to visit our blog site to read about California real estate.

Thanks for the excellent tips! And perfect timing too as I have just recently launched my new weblog. I'll have to revisit some of the tips outlined here and implement them.
