BLOG ORLANDO - The unconference

Yesterday I attended BLOG ORLANDO at Rollins Real Estate Trainer: Toby Bloomberg (Bloomberg Marketing/Diva Marketing)College.  I found out about this wonderful event from Toby Bloomberg of Atlanta, GA and the Diva Market BLOG.  I meet Toby because of the Laurie Manny Challenge....

Toby -- Thank you!  Wow!!!! What a day!

And to think had Laurie Manny not challenged me to reach outside of my comfort zone I would have never known about this wonderful event in my own backyard!

There are several communities throughout the country starting to run these gatherings!   The day started at 8am with registration and we finished around 5:30 with a full schedule of events!  So if your community has one, get involved!   Not only did I learn during the sessions but from the interactions between sessions.

They proudly called this an unconference.  What is an unconference?  Well it was about the structure of the day.  The presenters did not present as much kept the dialogue going.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Bloggers Don't Always Make the Best Presenters -- but they do it with great passion!
  • Shel Isreal (Naked Conversations)  Keynote speaker
    • Social media is about the conversation and building trust
    • Social media is building a generosity cult -- You get the most influence, by giving the most.
  • Business Blogging
    • 4 Important Questions to Ask yourself:
      1. What are the External Changes you want to effect?
      2. What are the Internal changes that result?
      3. What else can you do?
      4. What's Next?
  • Participation Marketing
    • Companies are stuck in one way message, while the client wants a dialogue...
    • The audience is no longer the audience
    • Language is significant!   To change people's perception - you must change their language
  • SEO
    • half scientific/Half creative
    • Touch graph a great way to find a list of authority sites
    • Google is going to start to punish anyone using paid text link ads
    • Pay Per Post -- Google watching this very closely
  • Closing Session -- So what is going on?
    • Business is Personal Again as a result of Social media
    • It is messy, by connection with one another, we build trust
    • Participation in the community -- give without expecting a return
    • 50% of all advertising does not work.  Neither does the other 50%.

Big ideas that I came away with:

  • Blogging is beginning to normalize, this is just the beginning
  • Humanizing the Process
  • Language is very important.  Want to change some-one's perception on a topic, you must change their language
  • Help people save time, make money, get more done, be happy, find meaning, connect with others and find greater satisfaction.
  • Realtors are not the only people who wonder what to write about...  Read a variety of writers and give link love!
