8 comments » A Year's Worth of Real Estate Blog Ideas, 21Part 19 in this list of real estate blog ideas covers everything from gearing some of your writing to college students, thanksgiving, and writing more details about your neighborhoods.
200. Create a pollGetting readers to be more engaged in your web blog can be a little tricky sometimes. We have covered some great ways for you to get these readers to be a part of your blog and this one I feel tops them off. Creating a poll is very easy and it allows the reader to give their opinion. Whether it is about the look and feel of your site, or their feelings on the Real Estate market right now. EXAMPLE: Jon Lansner, author of Lansner on Real Estate, has created a category within his blog just for polls. He creates these polls and then gets the feedback from his readers. What a great way to engage readers! Check out some of his polls, and become a part of his reading community. 201. ThanksgivingThanksgiving is the best time of the year for great food, and a great family surrounding. Write a post wishing all of your readers a Happy Thanksgiving, and give them a background of Thanksgiving. Where did it originate? What are common recipes used? Are there any special events that are happening? EXAMPLE: Take a look at how Zillow writes their Turkey Day post. Definitely make sure you include a little history, we the people like to be informed of EVERYTHING. 202. Get the best Mortgage RateExplain to your readers how they will be able to obtain the best mortgage rate by giving them the steps. Recently I found a great article (pretty short one) that gives details to readers about how to find the best mortgage rate. EXAMPLE: Yet once again, leave it to the awesome team at Zillow to create such a post. Keep your post short and simple, you don’t want to confuse your readers with big words that you would have to Google to find out what they mean. Check out their post on this topic to get an idea of how to do this. 203. Students need a place to live too!Don’t forget about us studious ones. The future of this country! Speaking on experience, it is hard to be a student and find a new home that is affordable. Finding a place to move to was the one of the most difficult things I have done. It took months to find a Realtor that was trying to rent out an apartment, or condo for a decent price. You may be saying that you have homes available, well show me! I dug around the internet hardcore for a long time and finally found a newly renovated condo that was just in my price range. However, I almost gave up because I couldn’t find any web blogs to go to in my area that talked about affordable housing. EXAMPLE: Check out how Vincent Bindi advertised a great condo on his blog for students. Maybe give a certain listing you have a new title instead of the same “Waterfront Condo available: San Diego California,” switch it up, “Affordable Student Housing Opportunity”. Speaking as a college student it’s nice to see that Realtors in the area care. If you care enough, I may come back to you in two or three years and buy a new home. 204. Why buy, when you can rent?So this may sound a little redundant, but hear me out. People are constantly talking about how it’s better to buy than to rent, especially when you are young. Why? Explain the benefits of buying a home, condo, or apartment as opposed to renting one. I am on this student binge right now because it was hard finding helpful information from actual people that have been there done that, not some corporate office that is telling you what they want you to think to make money. EXAMPLE: Therealestatebloggers.com has some very helpful information for students, and they go in to explain the benefits of doing certain things while being a college student. I love it! The information I need practically all in one place, with great interviews, what else could I ask for? 205. I’m in college, not High SchoolI keep reading about local events and information on real estate blog sites that gear more toward the local elementary, and high schools. I’m not in high school anymore I’m in college now. Where’s my information? Obviously enough I am mature enough to go to the front desk at my college and ask for a calendar of events, but what if I was taking classes online? Crete posts for college students that may not have the time to stop by their college due to work and school. A post with events happening at the school, when we are done with school, deadlines for registering, etc. Your blog site is not only for selling houses, it’s about getting information out to the community. EXAMPLE: Take a look at some of these sites that ONLY have information for students other than college students: South Florida Real Estate Blog Silicon Valley Real Estate Blog So we have all this information on these schools, and awards that were given, but where is my local information? Where are the coffee shops, the places to get free Wi-Fi access, etc? 206. Where’s YOUR hottest “HOODS?”We have talked about almost everything under the sun in the past 205 ideas. It’s getting kind of hard to come up with some new ideas, so let’s expand on one. Make a list of the hottest neighborhoods in the area. Recapture their essence. EXAMPLE: Trulia wrote a short and sweet post about their hoods. A way to maximize this post is by adding in all the cool things to do in those “hoods”. 207. US City RankingsWhere does your city rank? Let your readers know where other cities rank with specific factors. Do some research and come up with your own list of top ranked cities and what they are ranked for. EXAMPLE: SustainLane.com has a complete list of cities by category to choose from for 2006. They give a brief list of the top 50 cities for each category. You can choose to view cities that use the most public transportation, where the greenest cities are, and so on. Great idea! 208. Coming SoonCreate a category on your web blog for “coming soon” and write posts about new and upcoming arrivals to your town. New buildings being built, new developments, shopping, etc. Explain the benefits that the new arrival may or may not have to the town, and how much it is going to cost to live if it is a residential living. EXAMPLE: Socketsite.com has written a post just like this one. Not included is any information about the new developments. The information at the time was probably not available, but at least the information is out there. 209. Opinions MatterYour readers and clients opinions matter. Take the time to answer a question you may have received via email or by phone and write about it. No question is ever a dumb question, and there may be others out in the world asking the same question. EXAMPLE: Counter Intelligence, a Real Estate web blog, has done this but in a different manner. They have created web chats for people to get together and chit chat. It’s a great idea to do this, but for those less tech savvy people this would probably be best to write in a post. Plus, this also has an advantage to you, more SEO value.

Comment from: Sam Chapman [Visitor] I clicked a link on one of your top blogging ideas and the link took me away from your site. Why don't you open new sites in a new window? Comment from: john [Visitor] wow this is a new great post of real estate bloggers .. ill visit this blog from now on .. Comment from: Mary Pope-Handy [Visitor] On item # 205 - I know this blog and the blogger and I understand why he writes only about the local elementary, middle and high schools. The reason is that these schools (not colleges) drive property values in Silicon Valley. The same can't be said of higher education. Comment from: Venancio [Visitor] Wow! Thanks for writing these great tips. I just started blogging and was having trouble comming up with things to write about. Now all I need is time to do my writing and some researches. Thanks again. Comment from: Joe Lane [Visitor] Hi RSSPieces, I picked up that you included a link to my Tri Cities schools page. The reason I include pages on our local schools (parks, rivers, events, etc., all applies) is folks will search for property with longtail phrases like "<city> home by <city> high school" Thought I would throw that one at ya.
