SEO Company estimates the next Google PageRank update to be around May 21, 2008 For those of you that don't already know- at the end of March 2008, we noticed a lot of dancing in the SERPs. Many pages that were previously on the first page for certain terms dropeed off and new ones circulated. Positions varried from datacenter to datacenter over the followng days. If your site found itself caught up in this algo change, check out the link below. To set the record straight: PageRank does not directly correlate to where real estate blogs show up in the SERPs for any given term. I have seen PageRank 2 blogs show up in searches before a PageRank 5. Why? RELEVANCY. The PR2 blog simply had more relevant content on the page to the given search and that is always the page that will win out regardless of PageRank. So, what is PageRank really measuring? PageRank is a probability distribution used to represent the likelihood that a person randomly clicking on links on the web will arrive at any particular page. A probability is expressed as a numeric value between 0 and 1. A 0.5 probability is commonly expressed as a "50% chance" of something happening. Hence, a PageRank of 0.5 means there is a 50% chance that a person clicking on a random link will be directed to the document with the 0.5 PageRank. Read also: Where does your site rank in the SERPs? Google uses a complex algorithm to determine the value or PageRank of each web page on the Internet. Google ranks pages from a value of 0 (zero) the lowest, to 10 (ten) the highest with large authority sites like Google itself, MSN and Ebay having the highest PageRank. Once you reach a PR 6, you are considered an authority site/trusted site. Page Rank for is mostly determined by the total number of outside links coming to the site. The higher your PR, the more often your blog or website will get spidered and indexed. Basically, the more places on the web that link to your site the more probable it is that a web surfer will end up on your page. Now, wasn't that a really simple explanation of something that can look totally complex? How Google itself describes PageRankPageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important". Read also: What is PageRank and when does Google update it? What are backlinks?Backlinks, links from other sites to your real estate blog, help to improve your credibility with search engines, online visibility, content reach and traffic. Therefore, building quality backlinks is just as important to the health and well being of your real estate blog as the content that you write. So, let's take a good hard look at not only why and how search engines value backlinks but now you go about building quality backlinks through an easy to follow link campaign. Read also: How to Build Quality Backlinks for your Real Estate Blog, Part 1 Why do search engines measure backlinks? In simple terms, search engines consider each backlink a "vote' for your site. It is a way for Google to determine the overall authority and popularity of your site. This is all you have to do to build authority for your blog. Ideally you should have about 1,000 backlinks in Google, however, be careful not to build these links too fast (100 links/week is acceptable). Since Yahoo! Does not obey the "nofollow" tag, you will notice that you have many more links in Yahoo! than in Google. That is normal. Assume a small universe of four web pages: A, B, C and D. The initial approximation of PageRank would be evenly divided between these four documents. Hence, each document would begin with an estimated PageRank of 0.25. If pages B, C, and D each only link to A, they would each confer 0.25 PageRank to A. All PageRank PR( ) in this simplistic system would thus gather to A because all links would be pointing to A. But then suppose page B also has a link to page C, and page D has links to all three pages. The value of the link-votes is divided among all the outbound links on a page. Thus, page B gives a vote worth 0.125 to page A and a vote worth 0.125 to page C. Only one third of D's PageRank is counted for A's PageRank (approximately 0.083). In other words, the PageRank conferred by an outbound link L( ) is equal to the document's own PageRank score divided by the normalized number of outbound links (it is assumed that links to specific URLs only count once per document). In the general case, the PageRank value for any page u can be expressed as:
i.e. the PageRank value for a page u is dependent on the PageRank values for each page v out of the set Bu (this set contains all pages linking to page u), divided by the number L(v) of links from page v.
